When you scan the code on a counter we do not ask for your name, your phone number or your email, and we do not collect them. We store an order number and the times it was placed and made ready. That is all we need to ring your phone.
What we store
- The order number, such as 27, and which shop issued it.
- The time it was placed and the time it was marked ready, so the counter screen can show who has been waiting longest.
- Its state: preparing, ready, or collected.
- One small value in your browser, so that closing and reopening the page returns your existing number instead of taking a new one.
What we do not store
- No name, phone number or email.
- No location. We never ask your phone for it and never receive it.
- No record of what you ordered or what you paid.
- No account, because there is nothing to sign up for.
Stopping abuse
The code on a counter is public, so anyone who photographs it could sit elsewhere and take numbers the shop never served. To stop that we limit how many numbers can come from one internet connection. We do not keep your address to do it: it is combined with a secret and put through a one-way hash, and only the result is stored, as a counter with no name on it. Nothing in our database can be turned back into an address, by us or by anyone else, and these counters are deleted within two hours.
Cookies and tracking
There are no advertising cookies, no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel and nothing that follows you from site to site. Visitor counts for this website are measured on the server, without cookies. This is why you were not shown a consent banner.
Where it is kept
Order records sit in a database on servers in Europe, run for us by a specialist hosting provider under a data processing agreement. The website itself is served from a separate provider. Every connection, in both directions, is encrypted with HTTPS. We can name our providers to a shop that asks.
How long it is kept
A number stops being live four hours after it is taken: after that it cannot be rung and it leaves the shop's screen. The record itself is kept so the shop can look back at its own days, and is deleted at the shop's request. Nothing in it points to you as a person, because we never collected anything that does.
Sound, camera and permissions
Tapping the test ring plays a sound on your own phone and sends nothing anywhere. We never ask for your microphone, camera, contacts or location. The camera that reads the code is your phone's own, and we are not part of it.
Your rights
Because we hold nothing that identifies you, there is no record under your name for us to hand over or erase. If you want to check that, or you have a question about any of this, write to us.
